Happy Friday everybody! The wedding planning is chug-chug-chugging along! I've officially ordered my dress and booked the venue!
Another Christmas gift I got from Johnny was a mandolin. I've wanted one for a really long time to make some prep work easier.
I used it for the first time to julienne my carrots for the Cold Thai Peanut Salad. It was scary and I don't think I got the hang of it. I'll have to ask Johnny to take a look at it. (Sometimes men are just better at figuring things out, especially if you're an impatient girl that

I'm the same way... those mandolins looks really cool, but dangerous at the same time!! I've never used one, but I've watched my mom use hers... she's VERY fast!
ReplyDeleteOoh a mandolin! Fun fun fun! Haha, I never read the directions as well. But I've always been pretty brave (or foolish) so I just go ahead and wing it.
ReplyDeleteThats wonderful about your dress and the wedding venue! Planning a wedding is so exciting!
ReplyDeleteThe mandolin looks cool - I always get my husband to help me with new kitchen appliances for the same reason you mentioned :)
By the way, I'm co-hosting a foodie blog hop today and I'd love it if you'd come along and join in! Thanks so much for hosting Friday Firsts and have a great weekend!
Nice on the mandolin! I need a new one, mine doesn't work very well.
ReplyDeleteSo exciting that you've ordered your dress and the venue is booked.
ReplyDeleteHave a great Friday.
Ha! I was going to say that we are REALLY on the same wavelength, because I just started self-teaching myself to play the mandolin (fyi -- it is hard). You can imagine my surprise when this post's title popped up in my feed. :)
ReplyDeletehaha that's funny Beth! When I mentioned it to J for my Xmas list he thought I meant the instrument too! He was very confused.
ReplyDeleteI have a mandolin too but only once used it, it wouldn't cut properly & so dull!!! I was so pissed hahaha.
ReplyDeleteAre you addicted to it now? I love mine....I just used it for thinly sliced potatoes layered over trout as "scales". It was beautiful.
ReplyDeletewatch your fingers on the mandolin - I can't tell you how many times I've thought "I can get a little closer" and have cut myself!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend - temps in the 30's!!
@Biz - I don't think I'll ever be brave enough to use it w/o the guard! I cringe everytime I see them using it on TV w/o the guard!
ReplyDeleteSad story--right around this time last year I got my first mandolin sliced. I proceeded to slice an apple which was still a bit wet from washing it. I chose not to use the guard and oops, my finger went right through. 8 stiches later I was back at it in the kitchen again..with the guard this time! haha :-P
ReplyDeleteCRAP missed it due to drama for this mama I won't miss it this week though :)
