Friday Firsts - Falafel
Hi everybody, Happy Friday!
First, I'd like to again say thank you to those of you who donated to help my brother's cat. If you hadn't seen already, I added a (happy) update to the bottom of the post.
My first for this week was attempting to cook falafel from scratch! I've made it from a mix before and eaten it out a few times, but never made it from scratch. I was not very pleased with the final outcome, but Johnny loved it. So, I'll tweak and play around with it some more before I post it for you guys! You win some, you lose some - but at least you tried, right?!
To participate in Friday Firsts create a blog post featuring a "first" of yours. Next, link that blog post below and tell us about it! If you don't have a blog or a specific post to link to please tell us about your first in the comment section! Any and all participation is welcome!

well, it LOOKS delicious... I have never made falafel, but I want to!! I will be watching for the recipe... :D
HAPPY FRIDAY, Christina!!
Thanks Kristina (haha I always go to type Bettie!) They tasted ok, but it was a texture thing. They were a little too soft for my tastes - both in the center and not as crispy as I'm used to.
Hi Christina, Hope the kitty updates continue to be good ones! Give him a scratch behind the ear for me. (the cat, not your brother! :) )
Have a good day!!
Hi Christina! Happy New Year! I hope your brother's cat continues to improve :) Your falafel look yummy. I've linked to my Top Ten Recipes for 2010 - it's the first time I've ever done a top ten post on my blog :)
I love falafel. Mmm.
Happy Friday!
SO not fair! I so want this recipe! I LOVE falafel. Did you bake them or fry them? I've been wanting to make it. Thanks!
Love the round up! I need to get back on the bandwagon - I have several new recipes to try next week - yippee!
I've made falafel from scratch, and they were delicious, but I deep fat fried them! :D

@ debbi and biz - I fried in about an inch of vegetable oil. Then j texted he was running late so I kept them warm on a pan in the toaster oven at like 300f for a bit
I'm SO SO glad that your brother's cat is better! What a wonderful community, eh? :)
Delicious falafal! I've never tried to make any myself, but you've inspired me!
OOH I loooove falafel!
I am really enjoying your Friday Firsts! Most of them I haven't tried either. I've heard falafel is a bit challenging to perfect, but I am sure you'll get it on your second try! :-)
