Johnny and I were so taken by Natalie's strawberry sour cream loaf when we chose it as BSI winner that we wanted to make it right away!
It worked out perfectly too because the $7.99 two pound tubs of strawberries were on sale and with store card came to $2.99 per tub! In season produce is so much cheaper and tastier! Win-win if you ask me!
I followed Natalie's recipe and instructions verbatim, which can be found here.
I didn't get any pictures of the mixing process, but the batter was absolutely beautiful! It was silken smooth and creamy, I was impressed!
The aroma while it baked was heavenly. Perhaps I made it in too big of a pan (12" loaf pan), but it was very delicate. The texture was almost like a white cake, very moist and light.
In the future I could see experimenting with the fruits, or maybe even adding oats to the batter to bulk it up some. This would also be an excellent choice for a birthday cake! Just bake in a round pan and "frost" with whipped cream!
Just as Natalie had promised, there were little pockets inside where the strawberries melted into yummy nothingness! This is definitely a keeper!
I was tagged by Amy of Please Don't Eat Me! to answer 7 questions about myself. The questions she chose to ask were:
1. What is your favorite article of clothing?
Wow! I have so many clothes, it's hard to narrow it down. I think I'd probably have to settle on some pretty dress that I rarely get a chance to wear.
2. What is your dream vacation?
Greece!
3. Have you ever danced in the rain?
Of course!
4. If you could design your own dream house, what would it look like? big and spacious, small and cozy, condo, etc..
I think it would probably have different wings. I like variety and could never live in a loft style apartment, I need to move room to room.
5. If you won the lottery would you quit your job and move to Tahiti?
Nope! (Because I'm not working right now and the thought of living on a tiny little island 9,000 miles from anywhere freaks me out!)
6. If you could only drink one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Non-alcoholic = sweet iced tea
Alcoholic = Singapore Sling OR Amaretto Sour (I can't choose!)
7. What would you name your first born son or daughter?
This changes all the time and most people HATE the baby names I pick out, but right now I like:
Son = Malcolm (Laura knows why!)
Daughter = Sabrina
I'm supposed to tag 7 people and ask them 7 new questions! But I'm a rule-breaker so everybody is tagged to answer one question:
What was the last book you read and would you recommend it?!
I have read other books since, but I read Firefly Lane by KRistin Hannah last summer and it was SO good. A story about mothers/daughters and friendships. Just loved it.
ReplyDeleteMmm, that strawberry sour cream loaf looks so moist and tender! I'll bet it would be delicious with in-season blueberries too. I'd add a pinch of cinnamon, if I were doing the blueberries, because I love that combo.
ReplyDeleteLast book I read was Catcher in the Rye ... I re-read it for my book club last month. I guess I'd recommend it, but I'm sure most people have already read it.
Presently, I'm re-reading Olive Kitteridge, also for book club. And I recommend that too! :)
I just read The Art of Racing In the Rain......amazing book!
ReplyDeleteI recently finished True Colors by Kristen Hannah, and Food Rules by Michael Pollan. Now, I'm reading The Girls from Ames...very good!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestions guys! One of my favorite activities in summer is to read outside. I like to think of it as soaking up as much sun and Vitamin D as I possibly can before Chicago weather chases me inside for another 7-8 months.
ReplyDeleteoh this is so creative and looks great! I'm reading "eating animals" right and so far, I would recommend it (but I have about 3/4 more to go)! :) You should go to goodreads.com for LOTS more great recommendations and ways to keep track of books you've read!
ReplyDeletecheater cheater! haha, just kidding..
ReplyDeletei love your kids names!!! they are adorable : )
i read the book The Witness by Dee Henderson, it's a slow read, i thought it would be more exciting.. *sigh*, up next is "Life in Prison" i have a feeling im going to like that one!
*hugs*
Dang, you really DID pick the right winner. That bread sounds and looks super wonderful!
ReplyDeleteOkay, this is embarrassing...i don't even remember the last book I read...with school, and without access to the library (our school library only holds boring academic books), I haven't been reading as much as I would like to.
I recently bought the Eat, Drink, Be Vegan cookbook, though, from Amazon. I fell asleep reading it last night and woke up with my glasses pushing against my face, Ow.....
Anyway, don't really recommend it..it has some good ideas, but what is with all the spelt flour and flax seeds? Not the stuff I like to stock up in my pantry. But, I do think that it has some pretty good inspirational ideas...I might just have to sub that tempeh for real bacon, of course.
I just read Glorious by Bernice McFadden and it was really good!
ReplyDeleteSince school is TAKING OVER MY LIFE, the last book I read was "European Politics Today" and no, I wouldn't recommend it, unless you're in the mood to often wake up with your face firmly planted in it, since you YET AGAIN fell asleep while reading it. (True story, lol)
ReplyDeleteCake looks DELISH!
That bread looks AMAZING! I am totally making that tonight!
ReplyDeleteWhew, just taking a quick break - my work day is INSANE today and I'll probably have to work late!
